    Default Acronymns in 40k

    I complied a list of commonly occuring Acronymns.

    =A=
    AC - Aspring Champion, Chaos Space Marines
    AC - Assault Cannon, Space Marine
    AC - Auto Cannon, Imperial Guard/Space Marine/Chaos Space Marine
    AP - Stat of a weapon as per the rule book
    AT - Anti-Tank, i.e. something that is good for taking out tanks and other armour
    ATSKNF - And They Shall Know No Fear, space marine special rule
    AV - Armour Value (of a vehicle)

    =B=
    B2B - Base to base, as in the assault phase where you move your models into contact with your opponents
    BA - Blood Angels, IXth Legion, 1st founding
    Baz/Bassy - Basilisk Imperial Guard Tank
    BC - Big Choppa, Ork Melee weapon
    BC - Blood Claw, Space Wolves Unit
    Beardy - Cheap, unfair, borderline cheating behavior; fielding a list that exploits what is obviously a flaw in the rules and violating the spirit of the game.
    BF - Blood Fist, Blood Angel close combat weapon for a Dreadnought
    BFG - Battle Fleet Gothic, ship to ship 40k
    BoLS - Bell of Lost Souls, though you knew that or you wouldn't be here...
    (Metal) Box - Dedicated Transport, usually used in the prejoritive, commonly Rhino or Chimera
    BP - Boss Pole, Ork Nob/Warlord upgrade
    BP - Bolt Pistol
    BRB - Big Rule Book, main 40k rules
    BT - Blood Talon, Blood Angel close combat weapon for a Furioso Dreadnought that generates extra attacks
    BT - Black Templar, Imperial Fist sucessor chapter
    Blob - Large unit size, usually Imperial Guard Platoons or Ork Mobs
    Bugs - vernacular for Tyranids
    Bugzilla - portmanteau of Bugs (as above) and Godzilla, refers to Tyranid Monsterous Creatures, usually associated with a list that has a large number of these
    BW - Battle Wagon, Ork transport

    CCW - Close Combat Weapon
    CSM - Chaos Space Marine
    C:SM - Codex: Space Marine
    Crons - Necrons

    D - Destroyer strength weapons, see Apocalypse
    DA - Dark Angels
    DA - Dire Avengers
    Dar - Eldar
    DC - Death Company Blood Angel Troop choice
    DCA - Death Cult Assassins, Grey Knights unit
    DCCW - Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon
    DE - Dark Eldar
    Dex - Codex, army book for a given race/faction
    DG - Death guard, first founding chapter rebelled during heresey
    DK - Dreadknight, Grey Knights walker
    DL - Dark Lance, Dark Eldar weapon
    DL - DarkLink, forum member,
    DL - Deadlift, devonian forum member, possible man-mountain, do not feed after midnight
    Doom - Doom of Malan'tai, a special Tyranid Zoanthrope
    DoW - Dawn Of War, either the PC computer game or the deployment type
    DP - Drop Pod, space marine transport
    DP - Deamon Prince, Chaos Space Marine Heavy Support
    Dread - Dreadnought, Space Marine walker

    EC - Emperor's Champion, Black Templar character
    EG - Eldargal, "outspoken" forum member, alledged girl, possible fake geek girl

    =F=
    FF - Flicker Field, Dark Eldar vehicle upgrade
    Flashlights - pejorative term for Imperial Guard's lasguns
    Fluff- The background material of the game, a "fluffy" player feels the story of their army is more important than WAAC
    Flyrant - A winged hive tyrant, contraction of Flying Tyrant, Tyranid HQ
    FNP - Feel No Pain, special rule see main rule book for the rules
    FOC - Force Organisation Chart, what units you can take for your list, usually 1 HQ + 2 Troops, though special rules may change this
    FW - Forge World, producer of specialist 30/40k stuff

    Gaunts - Hormagaunt, Tyranid Troop choice
    GD - Games Day, big convention for all things GW since 1975.
    GD - Golden Demon, the premier painting competition held at GD
    Ghaz - Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thrakka, Ork Warboss who invaded Armageddon
    GK - Grey Knights, Elite deamon hunting Space Marines
    GM - Grand Master, HQ of Grey Knights, or HQ of Dark Angels, rarely of Assassins
    GM - Games master, (no not that show with Sir Patrick Moore) person who runs games, usually in a narrative setting.
    GW - Games Workshop, producer of arguably the best table top wargame

    HB - Heavy Bolter, heavy weapon
    HD - Heavy Destroyers Necron Fast Attack unit with upgrade
    HF - Heavy Flamer, heavy weapon
    HH - Horus Heresy, the.
    HP - Hull Points, the number of hits a Tank can recieve.
    HWG - Haywire Grenades, Eldar Swooping Hawk wargear

    =I=
    IA - Imperial Armour, forgeworld book series
    IG - Imperial Guard
    IIRC - If I Recall Correctly
    IM(H)O - In My (Humble) Opinion
    INV/++ - Invulnerable Save
    IoM - Imperium of Man, realm controlled by mankind under the emperor
    IP - Intellectual Property, as in "that is GW's IP you're stealing! ZOMG!"

    JJ - Jervis Johnson, game designer
    JotWW - Jaws of the World Wolf, SW psychic power

    =K=
    KFF - Kustom Force Field, defensive upgrade for an Ork Big Mek

    =L=
    Las/Plas - Razorback with Lascannon and Plasmagun turret
    LC - Lightning Claw(s), melee weapon
    Libby - Librarian, Space Marine Psyker
    Lith - Monolith, Necron Heavy floating tank
    LoS - Line of Sight, you need this to shoot a unit
    LOS - Look Out Sir! special rule to try and save wounds allocated to characters in a squad
    LR - Land Raider, Space Marine tank
    LRC/LRR - Land Raider Crusader/Redeemer , Land Raider with closer
    infantry support
    LRBT - Leman Rus Battle Tank, Imperial Gun tank

    MEQ - Marine Equivalent, used often in theory to work out how effective units are
    Mech - Mechanised force, i.e. all vehciles or embarked units
    MG - Meltagun, favorite weapon of Jurgen, very good anti-tank weapon
    MM - Multimelta, good anti-tank weapon a "heavy" version of the melta gun
    ML - Missile Launcher, versatile heavy weapon
    MSU - Multiple Small Units, a force that relies on lots of minimal sized squads

    Nids - Shorthand of Tyranid
    Nidzilla - portmanteau of Nids (as above) and Godzilla, refers to Tyranid Monsterous Creatures, usually associated with a list that has a large number of these
    NMM - Non-metalic metals, a painting technique that uses non-metaliic paint to get a metallic finish.

    (Res)Orb - Ressurection Orb, "compulsory" wargear choice for Necron Lords
    OSL - Object source lighting, a painting technique.

    PF - Power Fist, melee weapon, (Power) Fisting Time a time when using a Power Fist
    PG - Plasma Gun, anti heavy infantry gun
    PK - Power Klaw, Ork melee weapon akin to a power fist
    PotMS - Power of the Machine Spirit, special rule for certain space marine vehicles
    Psyfleman - Grey Knight Dreadnought armed with two twinlinked Autocannons with Psybolts
    PW - Power Weapon, now archaic as the type of Power Weapon varies

    RAI - Rules As Intended, the way in which a rule was intended to function, rule may not be written this way
    RAS - archaic, Regular Assault Squad used in Blood Angels context previously
    RAW - Rules As Written, the way in which a rule is written to function, rule may not be intended this way
    Rifleman Dread - Dreadnought armed with two twin-linked autocannons
    RoBB - Realm of Battle Board, modular terrain gaming board from GW.
    RoW - Runes of Warding, Eldar Farseer upgrade
    RoWit - Runes of Witnessing, Eldar Farseer upgrade

    Sallies - Salamanders, first founding chapter
    SM - Space Marine
    Smurf - Ultramarines, first founding chapter of Space Marines
    SoB - Sisters of Battle
    STC - Standard Template Construct, mechanicum grails, instructions how to build technology lost in the dark ages
    SW - Space Wolves

    TCCW - Titan Close Combat Weapon
    TDA - "Tzeentch's Dark Agent. Beware the moderator... "
    TDA - Tactical Dreadnought Armour, more commonly Terminator Armour
    Termy - Space Marine in Tactical Dreadnought Armour, Terminators
    Termy - Termagants (do not confuse the two )
    TFG - That Fething Guy, as in Don't be TFG.
    TH/SS - Thunder Hammer with Storm Sheild, can be found seperately but generally both for assault terminators.
    TL - Twinlinked, weapon upgrade to make it more accurate
    TLA - Three Letter Acronym
    TO - Tournament Organiser, the person in charge of a tournament. A TO is right, doubly so when they are wrong. They make the rules you play be them, simples.

    Vanilla Marines - Space Marines using the Codex Space Marine codex
    VAS - Veteran Assault Squad, archaic, Blood Angel elite unit from previous codex, superceeded by VV
    Vindi - Vindicator, space marine tank
    VoD - Veil of Darkness
    votlw - Veterans of the Long War, Chaos Space Marine special rule
    VV - Vanguard Veterans, 1st Company Assault squad

    =W=
    WAAC - Win at all costs, a play style where the result is more important than the experiance
    WB - Wraithblades, Closed combat versiobn of WG
    WD - White Dwarf, monthly hobby magazine by GW,
    WG - Wraithguard, Wraithguard are constructs made from wraithbone, imbued with the spirit stones of dead Eldar
    WK - Wraithknight, giant new Eldar walker
    WW - Warhammer World, home of the hobby GW HQ Lenton, Nottingham
    WYSIWYG - What you see is what you get, normal tournament rules mean that what wargear a model has must be represented on the miniature

    ZM(B) - Zone Mortalis (Board), modular battle board from Forge World representing enclosed areas, similiar to RoBB

    If you have terms like Beardy and WAAC, you could have "Fluff- The background material of the game, a "fluffy" player feels the story of their army is more important than winning at all costs" in there

    Notice how there are no akkronyms for Orky fings, cos we can rite propa and don't need to shorten fings so our puny oomie brains can understand
