I do voice how I dislike the way some here verbally attack anybody who disagrees with them. Especially when it gets personal. I don't think I've ever named anyone specifically. It's funny because I think were all on the same page as far as gender equality is concerned. But yourself, EG and Gott whilst you have valid points you can make it difficult to engage in debate with when your so aggressive in doing so. But to be fair I don't loose any sleep over it either.

well you do attack EG though, if you look back through your own posts in this thread, you do get personal.

why are we the ones being singled out as aggressive? we call out bull**** when it happens, people get offensive and off topic as the debate goes on, we call them out on it, and suddenly we are the ones making personal attacks and being difficult. rather a stereotypical response of 'oh the women are just being emotional'

are you going to call out TDA for his sudden outburst on an issue that he has entirely imagined to take place, that is not relevant to this topic?

Sometimes I wish I was a Mountain Goat (which actually isn't a goat), just standing on a cliff not giving a f*ck about problems.

Then I get kicked off by an Eagle and fall to my death. Fun times.

That's the sort of person from the field whose opinion is more relevant, though she clearly does care.

However the process of robo-insemination is far too complex for the human mind!

What if it was reversed so that there were only 2 meat eaters there? Should your choice of whether to get a couple of steaks just for those 2 meat eaters depend on how vocally they'd complain if there wasn't any meat?
Yes that is a better metaphor. Well speaking from experience a large percentage of my friends are vegetarians, so when I cook I always have vegetarian food since it's usually easier to make one thing. However I sometimes will have options, like if I'm making pizzas or such. That said I talk to people and, yes, I balance it based on keeping people comfortable. I used to know someone who was very anti-meat, so I never had meat around them as I did not wish to make them uncomfortable. I asked my other vegetarian friends if they have a problem with me eating meat around them.

And I think if changing something, like not wearing a shirt with pinupgirls all over it, costs you basically nothing to do to reduce other people's discomfort, why not? I was raised in a weapons culture and as such learned to hunt as a child. However I stopped hunting as an adult as their is no compelling need to do so and I find it distasteful to kill animals for fun. And yes animal rights and women's rights are two very different issues but they both stem from our abnormal drive to dominate everything in our environment.

    Wow.

    This escalated.

In short - if someone is directly offended by something (by directly, I mean they themselves are offended, rather than saying someone else might be) then guess who holds the casting vote to whether they were offended?

    The person being offended!

Take some of the comments in the thread about Scottish Independance. I felt insulted and offended by some of the posts - but was told it wasn't offensive or insulting. By people who were saying the things.

Think that about sums it up yes?

And I see TDA is spamming. Again.

not all hunting is done simply for fun. we hunt rabbits on our farm. we do it because if we don't, the population gets out of control and then they develop mixamatosis and they die horribly. hunting is sometimes necessary. Certainly animal rights are very important, but that is for an animal rights thread, it is not really something to be discussed in a feminism thread, that is all.

the shirt issue is a simple one, he is representing his field in one of the most important space events of our times. I suspect there is a pretty good chance that he owns other shirts, and really he should have worn one of those. he knows that himself, which is why he apologised without prompting, and good for him. that is all there is to it.
