It's also a man's prerogative to change his mind. Just because you were up for rumpypumpy at one point in the dalliance does not grant an automatic right to the would be partner for that rumpypumpy.

This is precisely what happened to me at New Years. Beer Goggles on, and having a great time in the pub. Copped off with a lass, and was up for more fun. When it was home time, I hailed a taxi to get us back, whilst she grabbed her bag. Thinking she'd been sensible and left say an overnight bag somewhere safe or behind the bar, no alarm bells ringing. Except she piles into the taxi with a massive suitcase. Alarm bells start to chime, as there was something not right with that picture. Ardour rapidly cooling from this turn of events, on the ride back, turns out she's a mental health patient, and should be in hospital. Final kibosh put on any kind of physical exertion.

But, Hotel was about 3 miles out of town centre, and not knowing how much money she had, I let her stay, and explained nothing physical would be happening, as I didn't feel it was right. So far so awkward, but nothing bad happening at that point. Next morning? Rude awakening of her taking advantage of morning glory, and giving it six-nowt on my gigglestick. Without protection, and quite without my consent.

So who is to blame there? Is it me for getting drunk? Is it my basic biology for that morning test fire I (like all men) can do precisely nothing about? Or, just maybe, is it her fault for just taking advantage?

And no, I couldn't do much about it. I'm 6'2" and fairly well built (mostly thick bones and lard, rather than actual beefcake). She was around 5'2" tops. If I reported it to the police, all it would take is a single counter allegation, and that's me ****ed yet again through no fault of my own.

Now I'm lucky here, as the chances of finding myself in that position ever again are extremely low. Not just statistically low, but lesson learnt and I will not be exposing myself to such risk ever again.

But women? With some of the defence arguments we've seen thrown up here? Not so much.

Re: the pages long discussion on rape, consent, and convictions: Another thing that must be taken into consideration, on the legal side of things: Not sure how it is on your collective side of the pond (or way down under in Oz) but here, juries are almost overwhelmingly populated by people who were not clever enough to find their way out of jury duty.

That's who you have deciding peoples' fate. The lowest common denominator of intelligence, and also statistically, the least likely to have any kind of forward progressive-thinking ideas like feminism.

I have a friend who has been called into jury duty over a dozen times, and has yet to ever sit on a jury. Because when asked basic questions (either by plaintiff attorney, or defense attorney) about his feelings about serving he replies "I believe it is my civic duty as a citizen of this country to be ready to stand and serve as a juror for my peers."

He has never made the final round of pics. Over a dozen times. Because attorneys do not want bright, motivated and articulate jurors. They want uneducated and easily manipulated.

Our system doesn't do 'jury picking' in the same way I understand (mostly from Grisham Novels) the states do Scud. When you get the call you must be facing considerable hardship to get out of a case.

No. They don't have to pay you and the jury service pays for any loss of earnings you can prove, whilst the employers is obliged to maintain your national insurance for the duration. The jury service will pay you a mileage claim but not for parking. Also £5 something a day subsistence.

I only know this because my Mum is on it as I type.
