Proposing the idea that men were even able to subjugate women against their will historically for many thousands of years, assumes female weakness, helplessness, and passivity, which makes feminists the biggest misogynists. And this misogyny is the root cause of the feminist tendency to blame the patriarchy for every ill. The idea that women cannot truly act, but only be acted upon and react. I don't believe that. So I'm not a feminist.
congratulations my friend, you have taken stupid to a whole new level...

political power, people can only vote for the options presented. you cannot go in to the voting booth and say 'I vote for Mrs Jones round the corner'. women do not get the opportunity to actually get in to positions to be voted for.

the fact that it is illegal for companies to discriminate does not actually stop them discriminating.

men were able to subjugate women for thousands of years. that is a fact. I am not quite sure how you are arguing against that one...

On the surface TBM does have a point.
Women do make up a fractionally higher proportion of the electorate than males and the law specifically prohibits discrimination.

With this being the case there is equal access and equality therefore every job we look at should have an about equal gender mix.

Unfortunately, that is far from the case, we can see that in politics there no where near equality.

So with this being the case one must consider why aren't there equal representation?

Unfortunately the answer is far from straight forward. The throwaway answer is women aren't interested in politics.
Which may be the case, however, the question is why?
Are they genuinely not interested?
Are they put off by the way that politics works?
Are they discouraged from taking part?

Any of those could be a reason and several others.

Descrimination is rife in politics, ignoring gender splits. Looking at public vs state education, some 7% of the UK population goes through private education, yet 35% of politicians are privately educated.

More and more women are going to further education and we now have a point where more women are going to unversity then males, yet look at the stats (undergraduates 11-12) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aq73qj3QslDedDA0OTZHX0ZtXzZEUnd0SnNBcjMyQ lE#gid=4

14.3% Engineering & technology graduates are female
17.4% Computer science
29.7% Architecture, building & planning

Why are these so low? there must be something that is motivating school leavers that these three subjects aren't for women, in the same way there must be something pushing that "Subjects allied to medicine", education and veterinary science are not male subjects.

Thanks, maybe you can answer my next question. What is a rhetorical question?

A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question that is asked in order to make a point, rather than to elicit an answer.
