Honestly, that type of comment does not help anyone.

I've generally avoided this thread for a long while because I realised it was a waste of time trying to actually discuss anything.

The responses to any kind of attempt at discussion are usually abusive, reflect badly on BoLS and frankly don't do feminism any favours either.

My appeal to the Mods would be to either shut the thread down or please police it more strongly.

The rules of the Oubliette are slightly different to the rest of the forum, so while it is policed it is done so with a lighter touch than the rest of the forum.

Well if you don't like that you're free to comment on the thousands of words I've written with hundreds of links included to academic studies and research papers and first hand accounts of how terrible men treat women - but I suppose it's easier to pick one piece of hyperbole and make vague statements about how it's impossible to have a discussion instead and ask for the thread to be closed?
Because I mean quoting the comment I made before with ten articles linked backing my claim wouldn't fit your argument now would it?

Manslation: People are mean to me when I start spewing ignorant nonsense about things I don't understand and don't experience, and my complete lack of self awareness and intelligence leads me to blame others for this. I'm also going to claim that somehow I can get to speak as to what does or does not do feminism any favours, which I define as feminism presented in a way that I feel comfortable with.

Apart from the thread seeming to contravene rule 5 which is a judgement call by the mods I guess. The issue I have is the insulting of other forum users which I don't consider appropriate in any circumstance. If BoLs think that's fine then I strongly disagree but I'm just one user so...

Nearly 10,000 replies in both feminism topics, I will not take any nonsense from anyone who dares to claim 'discussion is a waste of time' or any of that nonsense. If YOU can't engage in a discussion about feminism without being 'abused' then YOU are the problem, not feminists, and certainly not here on BoLS.

EG you should be able to see someone could reach the opinion that discussion is a waste of time.

I don't think that automatically means they are writing the subject off as a waste of time.

But actually because the manner in which your zealous firebrand method of preaching for the cause, alienates people. That is why it is a waste of time (for some people). The fact you can just drop in personal attacks on people because feminism gets a free pass to behave in an ill-mannered fashion.

You think - you absolutely know - as a matter of faith - that the cause merits extreme measures.

You are entitled to that opinion.

They are equal entitled to their opinion that your approach makes it a less than palatable subject to engage with.
