And it's not masculinism, as it's still going with one of the core arguments of feminism - that doing feminine coded things is in no way shameful (regardless of your gender). Women are made to feel they are worth less than men as their (stereotypical) roles are less important, their likes more frivolous. And men who are associated with those roles and likes are seen as week for being like women. "You're acting like a girl" "p*ssy" "let's move it ladies" etc are all insults based around a man being like a woman. And it's just like the moral panic of a young boy dressing as a princess, yet not batting an eyelid when a girl wants to be a typically male character.
Or doing it without a trace of irony:

That I wasn't one of my little friends, or that I wasn't one of the boys that couldn't wear dresses? If the former, then I didn't feel the need to clarify, that was just how it was. If the latter, then yes, that was the joke.

And about the masculinism/feminism it can be seen from both sides of course. My point was that girls can generally wear whatever they want, act however they want and play whatever they want, whereas for guys there are stricter social rules what we can and can't do. Your picture has it backwards.

I'm not trying to say this was conceived or is enforced by oppressive matriarchs, but it's something that's pretty deeply rooted in both men and women.

I don't get it. I mean please explain how clarifying you weren't one of the boys who wore a dress is funny or..? Like I really don't get how it's meant to be funny.

I think you mean girls can act like boys up to a certain point, but not always and only sometimes and not forever.

Well, yes. But boys can act feminine never.

    I'm not disagreeing with that.

Also really interested in an explanation on that joke too.

It was a tongue-in-cheek "need to clarify", suggesting that people with that mindstate would start jabbing at me otherwise.

Someones just been on radio promoting their Shakespearian play... Juliet and Romeo. They're inverting all the characters so the males are female and vice-versa.
Wonder how that'll work for them?

Because patriarchy tell us women are weak and being feminine is bad. If you're a woman, you're ****ed. If you're a man, you get trained not to act in any way feminine.
Ask not the EldarGal a question, for she will give you three answers, all of which are puns and terrifying to know. Back off man, I'm a feminist. Ia! Ia! Gloppal Snode!

Possibly terribly given the play is about 40% d!ck jokes, unless they're actually doing a full rewrite of course.
