I think summations is usually used when referring to more than one summary. It's primary usage is for adding things together and it comes out of that context. Summary would be the more accurate word in this case though summation isn't technically wrong since a summation is still a summary.

Oh my god, some of the comments on the John Oliver video. I mean ignoring the horrifically misogynist ones some are hilarious:

That wage gap statistic is actually false. The 77 cent figure was made comparing all working men to all working women. They did NOT keep in mind that men have more higher paying jobs that women. And that is not, comparing the same job in the same field, that is comparing all of the women who are teachers, to all the men who are nuclear physicists, and they are upset that pay is not equal. Men are the vast majority in 9 out of 10 highest payed careers, architects engineers etc. Women are the same, but with the LOWEST paying careers. This is not discrimination, it is just the path our economy has taken.

So, the pay gap doesn't exist because men are paid more because they get higher paid jobs than women and no women ever go into architecture, engineering and nuclear physicists apparently.

Seriously this needs to stop. Let’s make a list on why this is gross:

1. “Tumblr” is not a mass entity of social justice bloggers whose mission in life is to annoy you. I’m pretty sure there are more porn and neo **** blogs than social justice blogs. So why are SJ blogs getting more hate than neo **** blogs? And why is every blog that mentions oppression called an SJ blog? It’s like people don’t know that oppression is actually a 24/7 experience and not a hypothetical theory.

2. People keep using the word “offended” ad nauseum when talking about this. No one is getting “offended”. No one is getting “offended”. Doesn’t that just mean annoyed? No, people are getting HARMED.Being triggered causes panic attacks and flashbacks. “Jokes” and slurs remind marginalized people that they are not valued and seen as one-dimensional and subhuman. Your stereotypical comments and microaggressions aren’t “mildly irritating”, they’re painful. You are hurting people and instead of changing you’re insisting that you’re the victim. Tbh that level of apathy and callousness is terrifying.

3. Did I miss something? Because I’m pretty sure adding a trigger warning in a post takes .5 seconds, yet you all are whining about it like it’s some huge sacrifice. Wtf? It’s not a big deal at all. You just seem to be angry at the idea of accommodating others. People can’t control their panic attacks or flashbacks, but you can control your tags. But apparently people who need trigger warnings only exist to inconvenience you. Stop making this about you.

They actually did that in Ausria and went down to compare the same jobs instead of "the same industry". Page gap went down from a reported 18% to 4%. Most probably US is different but I can imagine that there is little interest in providing a low or even percentage. We have an overwhelming majority of women in history, journalism und gender studies despite offering easier access to women in disciplines which lack female attention (med school for example has an admission test. The score you need as a women to get admission to study is significantly lower) they still stream in history and journalism. They succeed and this field of study and end up getting worse jobs than the 10 women who made their master in chemistry this year.
You cant compare that and still they are thrown in the same box. They even went so far as comparing the CEO of Red Bull to the (female) Manager of a public Art Museeum because both are Managers.

Happens a lot. From my point of view: If I sit like the woman next to him, im in pain for the entire ride. Another picture I see very often is a female with her handbag on a free seat which gets grumpy if asked politely if she can free up the space.

It varies from industry to industry and country to country. Like the video says, in academia the same resume gets more favourable impressions and higher pay with a male name than a female name. In general even industries with more female workers will still have leadership positiions occupied primarily by men, not always though but often. But you can compare it, I mean if the average salary paid to men is still higher than the average salary paid to women across all sectors then something is still wrong, at the very least it shows that female dominated industries are less valued.

This gap also exists between man. Equal payment for equal job sounds nice but we dont have this. Not even among the same gender.
An accountant at geberit gets more money than an accountant at a smaller business, despite having the luxurity of computer support, child care and free meals. Both do the same job, have the same graduation. I would even argue the accountant in the small business has to work MORE as he gets less sofware support and has to do many more things on his own where the bigger business has other divisions for. Still the first one earns more and has more social bonuses his employer provides to him.
Equal pay for equal job is an illusion.

4% would probably be a reasonable estimate to account for missed time in experience/seniority for someone whos taken time off to pop out a couple of brats.
