Q: How many male novelists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A: “The cocaine isn’t the point. The cocaine is a metaphor,” he explained wearily over the pile of cocaine. She folded her arms. She didn’t understand his cocaine. “Didn’t you read my manifesto?” The prostitute had read his manifesto. Why couldn’t she?

Q: How many male novelists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A: "You have so much to learn," he told her. She was only 19, but she was the best student in his undergraduate short story class who was also female and classically beautiful. "I will teach you, and also have sex with you. You can walk around wearing only my tweed jacket after, but only for 20 minutes. You're not ready to wear it for longer."
"Is that the jacket with the elbow patches?" she murmured, her full lips plump as an overripe cherry, already tainted with corruption at the pit.
"No," he said harshly, "it has double elbow patches." He turned to face the window. "I knew you wouldn't understand."

Ha!

"When they’re babies, people will come up and say to you ‘Are they a boy or a girl?’ when the kid’s in the pram and you can’t tell. And immediately when you tell them which gender it is they will behave differently according to what you tell them. It got to the point where we didn’t want people to know what gender the baby was. Just treat it as you’d treat someone you wanted to be nice to! Why is it so important to you to know? And then you hear people saying ‘Oh, look at him, he’s a little flirt isn’t he’, or ‘Oooh, she’s gonna wrap you around her little finger’ and all this. What are you on about? She’s two months old, she’s just shat herself."

Male survivors charge that feminists see rape as a “man vs. woman” issue… The distinction is that while many women, and some men, are victimized by rape, all women are oppressed by it, and any victimization of women occurs in a context of oppression most men simply do not understand.
For myself, I don’t need for rape to be gender neutral to feel validated as a male survivor. And I certainly don’t need to denigrate women, or to attack feminists, to explain why I was abused by the (male) police, ridiculed by my (male) friends, and marginalized by the (male dominated) society around me. It is precisely because we have been “reduced” to the status of women that other men find us so difficult to deal with. It was obvious to me at the police station that I was held in contempt because I was a victim- feminine, hence perceived as less masculine. Had I been an accused criminal, even a rapist, chances are I would have been treated with more respect, because I would have been seen as more of a man. To cross that line, to become victims of the violence which works to circumscribe the lives of women, marks us somehow as traitors to our gender. Being a male rape survivor means I no longer fit our culture’s neat but spacious definition of masculinity, as one empowered, one always in control. Rather than continue to deny our experience, male survivors need to challenge that definition.

This is the kinda **** that really emphasizes how patriarchy does NOT benefit all men.
Just some men.
And neatly highlights how true gender equality is an objective that benefits humanity as a whole.

Restaurant Responds to Review Requesting Servers 'Show Some Skin' In Clever Way

Not many restaurants have the chance to respond to a customer’s review in a smart, effective and cheeky way. Atomic Grill in Morgantown, West Virginia, however, managed to do just that.

After a customer posted a review on UrbanSpoon -- which has since been deleted -- requesting that the servers show more skin, owner Daniel McCawley took matters into his own hands.

"It was brutish. I was upset. I’m a father of a 12-year-old girl and I’ve got five sisters," McCawley said. "The way that women are treated is pretty personal as far as I’m concerned."

Rather than just get upset, McCawley took action by giving the customer exactly what he or she asked for: more skin.

From now through Memorial Day, Atomic Grill will be offering a potato skin special for $7, and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information Services.
"We took offense to the review and wanted to flip it in a positive way," McCawley explained.

He said the restaurant has so far received a "tremendous" amount of support. "My Facebook blew up overnight," he said. "I really hope this will be a positive thing."

It's kind of sad really since proper fur felt fedoras look nice but what most people think of as a fedora these days is some cheap crappy trilby in patterned fabric and sewn together and it looks revolting, which is why people wearing them tend to not look like a film noir character. It actually dsiturbs me a little, I mean I enjoy the fedora jokes about 'nice guys' as much as the next girl but when you start to associate a behaviour with a fashion accessory it starts to get a little problematic. It is the men and their ridiculous behaviour that is the problem, not the hat. The hat doesn't make them do it.
