Yeah, no. His apology was warranted, he wasn't particularly harassed. People were angry because the shirt was scene as a public symbol of the misogynist, ehyper masculine dudebro culture that permeates science. He didn't mean it that way, which is why his apology was good and accepted. These people don't give a **** about him either they are just using him to further their own misogynist bull****.

This sort of thing really pisses me off actually, I mean you have a situation where women have their careers destroyed are driven out of the sciences completely as a routine thing because of misogyny nad harassment in the field and no one gives a ****, but some guy gives an unprompted, sincere apology and people are ****ing apoplectic depite there being literally zero damage to his career or future prospects.

Was he? That's now how it sounded. He broke down after saying he knew he offended a lot of people, it didn't sound like a reaction to harassment but him being genuinely upset and sincerely sorry for the incident.

Also no, they didn't. They didn't know he didn't mean it, they reacted with genuine anger over something that like I said is symptomaic of a problem which destroys womens lives and careers. They were angry because they saw a prominent scientist on television apparently happily objectifying women. The oppressed should not be expected to always conduct themselves in a manner which makes the more privileged comfortable. There are certain lines which shouldn't be crossed, death threats, threats of violence etc. But I didn't see much of that. And at the end of the day this is an issue which destroys womens careers and prevents them from attaining positions like his, while his career will be completely unharmed by this whole affair (as it should, he obviously he didn't mean it). But women in similar positions have been sacked for lesser scandals.
