    Default Guardians in mech eldar

Are guardians an effective way to bring wave serpents now?
They are an extra 25 points for an extra 5 bodies, at the cost of less armour and ld.

if just taking as a means to buy a wave serpant then i would take dire avengers, longer range run, couter attack, better armor save and cheaper even with an exarch, 5 points than the guardians gives them 5++ , a power weapon and great midfield troops... guardians are ok with a platform, but you are buying backfield objective holders for an army of backfield objective holders.

Not the cheapest option but 10 with a platform does give you the option to unload at a distance and plink away or get up close and bladestorm a unit to death.

Personally I'm going to mix guardians/avengers & wraithguard in serpents for lots of mobility and flexibility.

You find the extra bodies make up for lack of range and armour? Or yet untested.

    Well consider the cost.

Yes you could just take a unit of 5 Dire Avenger for 65 points and add in a 120 point Wave Serpent for a total of 185 points but you really do want that Squad of 10 Dire Avengers so the cost increases up to 250 points.

Now a Squad of Guardians already has 10 models for just 90 points and a 120 point Wave Serpent brings the cost up to 210 points or 40 points cheaper.

But if you want Wave Serpent spam then go with the smaller squads of Dire Avengers x 6 = 1,110 points.

But you are not taking advantage of what the Eldar can bring to the table.

5 DA with a shimmershield exarch are reasonably survivable, and will still put down a couple of MEQ a turn reliably. Trade out the shimmershield for twin linked shuricats and you're up to 3 MEQ a turn.

Although I'd probably go for guardians and heavy weapons platforms if I were doing serpent spam. Maybe a smattering of both.
