I agree. If the Republicans want to remain relevant, they need to ditch the Tea Party. They're too extreme and don't seem to understand that our government functions best when both sides compromise. It's not about "winning." It's about doing what's best to keep the nation moving forward.

What makes me sad is how far the Republicans have come from their roots. This is the party that gave us Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt. Lincoln made slavery illegal and kept the country in one piece. Roosevelt fought against big business trusts and established the National Parks system. The Republican Party used to be about fighting for the little guy and telling corporate interests to stick it. Now, it seems they're exactly the opposite.

I know what you mean. It's weird. In the past, I think I'd have been a Republican. These days, I can't imagine voting for a Republican under any circumstances.

I've been tempted to vote for them on a local level, because some of their economic ideas do make sense on a small scale. But their right-wing views on social issues make the party's platform in general pretty hard for me to swallow.

I have some issues with their economic policies, but not their ideals. I actually really like the idea of empowering people to achieve positive change in their own communities rather than depending on the government to do it. The trouble is that the Republicans today would rather gripe about how dumb and stupid the poor people are rather than acknowledge that we, as a society, have problems that need to be solved. I don't care if the solutions to our massive gun, drug, and poverty problems come from socialism or capitalism, as long as we finally start to get these problems solved!
