    Default Best heavy weapon squad lode out for Gard Blob?

    Hello all

    I am just now getting back into my Imperial Gard army ( New Space Marine Codex = no love for my Gard) and was wondering what is the best heavy weapon option for Gard blob? I am kinda partial to 3 lascannons or Auto cannons, but what do you all think?

    Autocannons are absolutely boss. There is very little outside of AV 13+ they cannot deal with.

    Lascannon are more specialised; that said, IMHO they are fairly reasonably priced for the Str 9 AP2 (especially given the Guard orders that let you fire them twin-linked).

    I like to run six autocannon and three lascannon, but that's mostly because I love the models. I don't think Heavy Weapon squads are super competetive in the meta at the moment; they're better attached to blob guard squads.

    Yorko how do you get 6 & 3 in a blob, I thought the biggest you could have was 5 x 10 man squads, so 5 Heavy weapons?

    I think he means an actual Heavy Weapon Squad (3xHeavy Weapons) rather than upgraded members of an Infantry squad (who blob).

    OT: Autocannons are good for cheap dakka. I find Lascannons are good if you have less long-ranged AT in your list (e.g. Executioners or Demolishers in your HS slots). I just made my HWTs where I can just swap the weapons whenever I want. I usually run the LC, but the AC can work if you have enough anti-AV14 in your list, it's all about the rest of my list really.

    So far when running my blob squads i have run a little bit of everything. Sometimes i will run las other times i will run auto cannons even missile launchers and heavy bolters. It all depends on what you want them to do. for me for all rounders i would stick with auto cannons or missile launchers. But if you have something thats missing in your army then here is a good place to shore up that disparity.

    Yeah, he's right.

    Sorry for the confusion there.

    Has to be said, I do think blob squads are a probably a slightly better way to embed Lascannon, just because you have all those extra ablative wounds...

    But yeah, if you've got no other HW teams yet, go Autocannon; they're versatile as hell, and with their big drum mags, they look brilliant.

    Thank you all I will keep all this in mind when i set up my lists.
    Also I am a BIG fan of having the ability to swap out options on my plastic dude men. So I can change them out on the fly, but ya the Auto Cannons do look amazing.

    Remember, it's real easy to magnetise Heavy Weapon teams. Just leave the gun shield off, and put some 3mm magnets on the 'pin' section of the gun/the bit where it connects to the tripod. The right kind of magnets are RIDICULOUSLY cheap on eBay as well.

    One word... Mortars! Every guard squad (and army) needs the barrage power that mass amounts of mortars can bring.
