    Default Baby's First Vampire Counts List (1.5k, Limited Model Selection)

    Here is the list I will have with what I own, after the purchase of some bits and a little conversion - what do you think?

    Lords
    * Vampire Lord, Level 4 Lore of the Vampires, on a Barded Nightmare, w/Hand Weapon, Heavy Armor, Lance, Enchanted Shield

    Heroes
    * Wight King w/Dragonhelm, Heavy Armor, Shield, Sword of Anti-Heroes
    * Necromancer, Level 2 Lore of the Vampires, Master of the Dead
    * Necromancer, Level 2 Lore of the Vampires, w/Channeling Staff, Dispel Scroll

    Core
    * 40 Skeleton Warriors w/Hand Weapons (Full Command)
    * 20 Zombies, w/Standard Bearer
    * 20 Zombies, w/Standard Bearer
    * 5 Dire Wolves (Doom Wolf)

    Special
    * 5 Black Knights (Full Command) w/Barding & Lances,
    * 5 Hexwraiths (Hellwraith)

    I do have a little flexibility. I own a couple more zombies and dire wolves, for example, and I've got a few other hero options. More importantly, your critique will help me as I expand my collection.

    One thing.....5 Dire Wolves won't be up to much on their own. They can't strip ranks as they don't have a rank.

    Might be better off putting those points into more Zombies.

    The Dire wolves serve two purposes. Deployment delay and general chaff.

    At this point level and with the units he's fielding, it's useful to see where the opponent's best units will deploy. Additionally, having a chaff unit for deployment also means your opponent delays seeing where your more useful units go.

    Then as chaff... well, it's always useful to have chaff for redirection, march blocking, or limiting movement.

    Overall I"d say you are a little character heavy (typical of Vampire Counts) but nothing too crazy.At 1500 points the Hexwraiths will be a major boon even if they won't cause a horrendous amount of damage. Magic attacks just aren't common in 1500 points (although, against your favored opponent's wood elves, be warned, they are more common).
