Yes, but I only use freetrade 100% natural all organic gold farmers, not those Chinese child slave labor swetshops of yours. Did you know they pump growth hormones into their farmers to help them produce extra gold?

Okay, this isn't terrible forum software. The profile picture retrictions are a bit draconic, but it has a nice look to it.

Now I'm testing out how muti-quoting works.

This is probably the only feature that I really care about.

The pic restrictions can be changed up to a point. Making them too crazy means the forum will bog down and that's not a good thing.

    My issues:
    1. It doesn't tell me what image types are supported (just that a custom image can be 80x80 or 24.4kb). It choked on my BMP so I had to convert the image to a JPG. More file format options would be good.

    2. You should see if there's one of those snazzy plug-ins that let you upload a larger image and crop it to the right size. I think those are pretty sweet.

    3. The forum has both an option to upload a "profile picture" image and an "avatar" image. I found that to be a bit confusing, but I figured it out after a couple of tries.

Oh, I went through the registration emails and they look good.

    1. Picture formats on a forum will almost NEVER support .bmp. They're not a good file type to be using to begin with because they're too huge. .jpg, .gif, and .png are the available types, I believe.

    2. They may be sweet, but honestly, they're more trouble than they're worth.

    3. Profiles and avatars are two different aspects. I can remove one or the other, but not gonna until Larry gives me the head's up.

Does vBulletin give you the option of more image formats? Some forum software only allows JPGs and GIFs, but if more formats are available in the control panel then I say use 'em. There aren't security or space considerations (as long as you keep the max file size unchanged).

Does vBulletin give you a minimum and maximum range for avatar dimentions? If so, I recommend making the minimum 20x20 and the maximum 90x90. You can still keep the file size to 24.5KB -- we'll just have fewer users that have to scale their images (which is a hassle for the average computer user).

It depends on the software. PhpBB doesn't have a decent plug-in for cropping avatar images, but vBulletin might.

I've looked at a couple of other forums and noticed the same thing. It was a little confusing to me (especially since the first option was "profile" and I had to look further down the list for "avatar"). I think that will be fine -- we may want to add a "how do I upload an avatar?" as part of a forum FAQ.

Speaking of which, I don't see a place for the forum rules and such stuff. Has anyone written a set of "don't be a prick" guidelines?

Not true on the security issues. I think .jpg, .gif, and .png are plenty. Those are the three main formats that any graphics person will ever use. I know because those are the only three I'll touch. Bitmaps may look good and all, but a png will do the same thing in 1/4 the file size.

The avatar dimensions more than likely do exist, but I don't really see a need to change them at this point.

I _personally_ would prefer to not add a whole bunch of extraneous stuff into the forum. Resizing also has a very nasty tendency to stop working after a certain point.

The guidelines are being worked on, but they are not necessarily a priority at this point. This was to get the forum basics up and running. The content will be done at a later point if I understand correctly.
