Default Thoughts on the Future of Necromunda

Had a cool thought just a min ago.

Imagine if you will that after the end of this year when LotR/Hobbit stops laying it's Golden Egg GW decides it needs another stream of revenue and decides to reinvest into Specialist games again Namely Necromunda.

Imagine a fully Supported Necromunda in the new GW era of all plastic multi part Kits and fully 3D scenery?

Imagine the Gang Boxes? You could have the bits for to make a Leader and 4 gangers or 5 gangers, a Heavy and 4 Juves, along with enough arms to represent at least one of each weapon and maybe two of the more common options like Lasguns Autoguns Stubbers ect. And of course at least 15 - 20 head options
Two of those and you be set, Unless you needed different options later on I imagine they'd go for the usual $40 - $55 (Aus) mark. But it would be worth it and I'd bet a few IG players would by the Kits to make unique regiments.

It would make money easy. Damn it GW why aren't you doing this?

It could be awesome, but that's probably why GW are unlikely to do it: not enough money in it. People only need to buy a few miniatures and then they're done. (Personally, I think this is short-sighted. It can be a 'gateway drug' into 40k or a new army.)

Anyway, I'm just hoping for a decent multi-part Chaos Cultist box. Assuming they will look something like the DV ones, it shouldn't take much work to make Cawdor, Redemptionist, and Scavvy gangs out of them - and maybe Orlocks too, especially if they can be kitbashed with IG bits.

In an ideal world, some more IG types being done in plastic would help too. Actually, in an ideal world they would produce plastic multi-part Necromunda gangs that could serve as Cultists or Imperial Guard...

honestly, necromunda is healthier now, with the community edition rulebook than it would be under GW, its free and they can't take it back.

and really, the only gang you cant do easily with plastics is delaque

Van Saar is a massive pain in the butt too.

And there are few off brand 'not Delaques' out there. So they are only an Issue if you want to Play in a GW store.

I can imagine a lot of things that aren't going to happen.

To be honest this was more a thought exercise on how I'd pitch Necromunda to the bean counters if I was working for GW in the Marketing dept.

And to say this will never happen is a bit presumptuous GW may a) give up on LotR and b) realise its conceded a large chunks of the wargaming market to its opponents, sections that they once completely dominated (Fantasy Football, Fantasy Naval Battles and RPG-Lite Dungeon Delving anyone?) at that, by not even having a dog in the fight and resurrect the specialist games they once put serious effort into..

I actually thought of something like this a few weeks ago. The GW website has removed all Specialist Games Products, but still has the Specialist Games section. I'm even pretty sure it has been redesigned since the last time I looked at it, so they could have removed it but didn't. And do you remember that article a month or two ago about how GW was hiring 'Corporate Acquisition Specialists?' I think they're related. Here's my theory-

Gee Dub wants to revive Specialist Games because money is money, but they don't want to divert their 'Star Talent' from working on the core games. So they're going to snap up one or more little indie developers, probably ones who are already making bootleg versions of the Specialist Games anyway, and put them to work turning out new versions of all the beloved classics. They get to keep a hand in the Skirmish-level wargame arena without slowing down the release cycle on 40K/Fantasy, and bump off a few people who are cutting in on their model making action in the bargain. Everyone wins.

I would love to see this game back on shelves.
Not so much because I yearn for new rules or models but because it would be nice to have some new players and leagues.
It would be nice to introduce the game back and get more people involved in it again.
But yes it would be great to get a nice set of comprehensive rules and some new models but I also doubt that GeeW will ever have much to do with it other than selling the licencing rights.(and that would be the best thing for everyone).
There is a reason you can buy 6th Ed rulebooks and apocalypse, escalation ect in hardcover and there isn't a rulebook for killteam other than in digital format.
They like to sell models, big ones, and a game like necromunda would be nothing more that the equivalent of a plate garnish at a grand feast.
So, please GeeeW, Sell the copyrights, or make a deal with FF or whatever you gotta do.

While the potential for some amazing Necromunda models is there, the problem is, players might buy one or two boxes each and then they're done, making your money back from an expensive plastic injection mould wouldn't really be feasible, they could likely do a great job in resin now, but without the customisation options, but more likely than not, they'll leave it, its just not a good business for them, its a shame, I love the Underhive and have 5 large painted gangs (Esher, Goliath, Van Sar, Spyrer and Pit Slaves), which i use as Chaos Cultists when they're not battling it out over Archeotech
