    Default Going back to Necrons...

when life seems to punish me, I tend to go back to the 40k hobby as it seems to be a good thing to keep me occupied. I won't lie, I'm a bit lazy so I went with a paint-scheme that would be easy and fun to do, but still look decent enough - allthough I have left it "open" to go back and do more shading/highlights whenever I feel confident I can do it well.

Here is my army so far :

    The Phaeron :

(I'd say this as good as my painting can get, currently)

    Triarch Praetorians :

    Immortals :

    Annihilation Barge :

    - this one obviously needs a lot more work, but I hate painting vehicles so I've put it off.

Yesterday I received 6 necron wraiths and one of those named Overlords, I've assembled the Wraiths, but also I've been working on conversions as I feel the army needs some stuff that looks a bit unique - and I want to get my moneys worth and with the amount of bitz leftover it seems a waste.

So I've made 5 of these, which will be my "Tomb Blades". I'm still not sure on the arms/weapons but I'm not sure what else would work :

Its the army of the red skull!

I do like the colour scheme, makes a glorious change from the boltgun metal necrons that seem to be ever present!

Also working on 10 of these "Lych Talons", they will sort of be my trademark "primeval abyssian" style creatures modified to a 40k necron style :

They will have thin wirey limbs carriny smaller weapons, and robotic cables drapping from the bottom of the small torso to the ground. In a way they will echo the old-school Wraiths, but are more the same height as your average warrior.

I like the army! The colors look nice and smooth, well done there.

I feel like the models though are begging for a wash or ink, to give them some depth and variation across that bone/cream color. You said you were at the limit of your painting, maybe now would be a good time to take he next step and maybe try out one of the GW washes, the red tinted flesh one comes to mind for your army. Maybe the new technique will stretch your skills and improve your painting!

Yeah, I'm just scared to make that move and screwing a model up you know? It's an expensive thing to screw up, and I dont want to even think about paint stripping. I suppose I could use some of the spare weapons and parts I wont use on anything else and use them as "test materials" though eh? do you know the exact name of the wash at all? I was also wondering if a "glaze" would do any good on them.

Got a little more progress on the Lych Talons done, they will look even weirder when finished. Quite litterally what Necrons would look like if you ported them to Primeval Abyssian. They are experimental troops the armies Cryptek has developed - specialised Necrons whose shells are partly made from forcing dimensions to co-exist on top of each other creating quantum entangled armour. Since I don't play, they wont have any rules - but should make a nice "trademark" unit, as it's obviously they are "very me" :P

In life - the Lych Talons were murderers, serial killers and sociopaths. Gifted new bodies by Arch Cryptek Akileth, the Lych Talons make the perfect terror troops, with technology similar to that of Canoptek wraiths and Lychguard - the Lych Talons float eerily across the battlefield, protected by their advanced Quantum entangled bodies - they seek out the most vulnerable part of the enemy and wreak havoc and terror.

Note : I think "in game" they will probably count as Flayed Ones, as the theme and role is similar!
