So in very hopeful news apparently the Star Wars Rebels tie in novel A New Dawn has a very diverse cast, including a black female acting-captain of a Star Destroyer and lots of women in Empire ranks and elsewhere. Going to buy it and see for myself. So far from making SW even more boy-orientated it is looking like Disney realised they had a huge female fanbase right there as well and don't want to screw that up.

I mean it is even possible they might reverse the assumed-but-only-canon-in-the-EU misogyny of the Empire which was really only fans speculating as to why there were so few women in the films (hint: institutional sexism in Hollywood). Excite!
