PLAY NINTENDO: NEW GAMES, NEW EVENTS AND LIVE, NONSTOP PROGRAMMING ON TAP FOR E3 2014

    Super Smash Bros. Invitational
2014 will see the arrival of not one, but two new Super Smash Bros. games: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. To commemorate this occasion, Nintendo is inviting 16 highly skilled Super Smash Bros. players to the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles to compete in a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament. Thousands of fans in the audience and countless more watching a live stream online will see new Super Smash Bros. characters clash with existing favorites in action for the first time. More important than declaring a winner, however, this event is a celebration of all things Super Smash Bros., and a great way for new and veteran fans to take part in a tribute to this legendary franchise. More information about the 16 invited participants in the tournament, the identity of the announcers, and how fans of the franchise can view the tournament in person and via webcast, will be communicated shortly.

    Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3

This new program will be live streamed during all hours of the E3 show. Fans can get settled in, open their browsers and experience the Nintendo games at E3 like never before.

So, some early pre-E3 speculation and rumours courtesy of developer comments and leaks.

PROJECT BEAST - Playstation 4 exclusive, Developer: From Software. This is rumoured to be a PS4 exclusive entry in the "Souls" franchise - including PS3 exclusive Demon's Souls and multiplatform games Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2 - that is set to officially debut at Sony's E3 2014 press conference. This is rumoured to be the big bomb-shell Sony is/was hoping to debut at E3 in terms of locking up third-party exclusives. The beans were spilled on this game by an anonymous 4chan user and a Youtube user has compiled the various mini-videos into a Youtube video pasted with the From Software logo and accompanying music.

VALVE SONY REVEAL - With the Steam Box still in development and billed as a competitor for the console gaming space to the Playstation 4, Xbox One and Wii U, it would come as a major surprise to see Valve appear - yet again - at a Sony E3 press conference. However, a mysterious tweet by a current Valve developer has alluded to some form of presence at Sony's conference and also hints at an Xbox connection. My personal thoughts are that this will either be Evolve or Left 4 Dead 3 debuting at the Sony conference, but it will later be reaffirmed/confirmed as a multi-platform game much like when Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain debuted at Microsoft's E3 2013 press conference.

MAJOR XBOX THIRD PARTY EXCLUSIVE - This one isn't really a rumour as there is little doubt Microsoft will have at least one of these up their sleeve to counter what will prove to be massive news if Project Beast is indeed a Sony/PS4 exclusive. Gamespot and various other websites have spoken of this and the recent opinions were that it could be a title in the vein of a new Homefront - disproven recently - or an obscure title like a new Shenmue. We know some kind of third party exclusive will show up but there are no real educated guesses as it could be just about anything - however, my tip is that it would be an EA title given their close partnership with Microsoft. Don't be surprised - but be AMAZED! - if it is a new Knights of the Old Republic!

    Big Third-Party Xbox One Exclusive

An reliable source has confirmed that Microsoft is going to have at least one "big" third-party exclusive reveal during their stage show. We don't know the exact game, but our source said the game is both something "unexpected" and "something people will be really excited about."

Let's hope they manage to keep the presentations free of sexism and rape jokes this year.

Looking forward to seeing SW:Battlefront and more about DA:I. Hoping we might see more than one or two other AAA games with female protagonists as well but lol.

Everybody knows Valve are incapable of releasing a game with a three in the title.

Can't wait to see the Nintendo reveals.

Microsofts Press Conference was great improvement on last year.

Ganes, games, no Kinect, games, games, no mention entertainment system, games and more games.

Nothing too shocking revealed but some good stuff. Booking 11th Nov off for Halo though....

    Thoughts so far;

    Microsoft
Overall Thoughts - Very solid conference, nothing mind-blowing as we already knew all of this stuff. The three major announcements are Halo: Collection, Scalebound and Crackdown but the latter two really aren't as mind-shattering as I would have hoped. The Halo Collection though looks amazing, awesome value and makes me really want an Xbox One now. I think Microsoft needed to pull out all-games and they did just that, so kudos to them, but very few major exclusive announcements unfortunately. I'm kind of disappointed we didn't see a new exclusive on the scale of Mass Effect 4 but what was there in the conference looked great - though all the CG trailers was kind of off-putting but not unexpected. Good performance Microsoft, hats off to Phil Spencer!

    EA
Overall Thoughts - The show was a pretty colossal disappointment with one big "but" right at the end. The two big EA titles everyone is hyped for - Star Wars: Battlefront and Mass Effect 4 - were barely shown, while much of the show was spent on mediocre looking Sims/Sports games. Really down-beat and honestly pathetic after Microsoft's showing, but then the show was redeemed somewhat by Battlefield: Hardline which looks absolutely amazing. Adam Boyes appearing on the stage hints that EA have thrown their lot in with Sony this year (Ubisoft meanwhile appeared at Microsoft's conference) but the big news is that the cops versus criminals game still looks amazing even without all the tanks and jets. Dragon Age: Inquisition looks great but the stuff we saw we have mostly already seen and as such I didn't get anymore hyped for it than I was. The show would have been pretty bad without Battlefield, but its extended demo at the end really redeemed the conference.

I see EA went with the "spend a fortune on CGI trailers" and then didn't spend any money. Lots of "conceptual" and "early WIP" trailers in there. Shame. Its amusing we saw more of Battlefront LAST E3.
