Old Army Lists and varients, do you play?

I started a similar thread over in the Warhammer threads, and I was wondering the same thing....

Back in the day White Dwarf (and the website) had varient army lists within them and the two campaign books they brought out had Mini-Codexes (Armageddon and Eye of Terror) which had varients rules and unit options in them....

Famous White Dwarf example include Codex Assasians and the website's most famous, Codex Catachans (gotta love the Booby Traps rules).

Now of course the most famous White Dwarf issues had the Index Astertes articules which included varient rules and unit options (including the traitor legions, Chaos Marines got some love back then )...

The last two sources to mention was the Chapter Approved annuals which collected rule updates, varient lists and such that had previously been published in White Dwarf (which of course had by then sold out) and the famous Citadal Journal (written by gamers for gamers, it gave birth to the late lamented Specialist games and the great Forge World!)

Now why am I rambling?

well I want to know who uses these varient rules and army lists in their home or club games?

Why do you use them?

If you had copies but don't use them, why?

Would you consider using them?

For those that do still use them, how do they play in todays metagame?

Are they still able to hold up against todays armylists?

My curisoity is getting the better of me, and I'm wondering, and before Bigred jumps in, I'm adding a poll for you guys to vote in.

I would like to see Chapter Approved return in some fashion. Actually, we may be seeing that...
Looted Wagon rules were in White Dwarf a few weeks ago. This weeks mag has a detachment for IG that gives Preferred Enemy to up to 9 Leman Russ's and a Wyvern (I may not be remembering the tanks right, but you get the idea.)
I would also love rules for Relictors... but we may be in an age where we don't see army lists anymore... you can just do whatever you want in an Unbound army.

I voted yes, but at the same time was up until 3AM last night (this morning?) updating all the references to my Grey Knights army list for an Apoc. game this Saturday...

Agreed. I would love to see the 13th return, as well as Catachans.

Relictors are one of my armies and I pray to both the Emperor andfthe Dark Gods for a Codex Supliment
