    Default Genestealer Cult Counts-As

I´m trying to build a battleforged list for a genestealer cult. The patriarch and the purestrain will be the broodlord hunting pack formation. The issue with being come the apocalypse allies ist minimized through their special rules for getting on the field.

But how could I get an army of hybrids and infected humans?

First thought was using imperial quard, but their military organisation doesn´t feel quite right. And there´s no good way for fielding hybrids. What I would like are the tauroxes for transports and the opportunity to field a tank or two.

Orks could be fitting for Hybrids and their transports would fit too. But they have allies issues with human armies except chaos space marines. That would leave me with either chaos cultists or grots for infected humans but no fitting option for a magus, as neither a ork weirdboy nor a chaos sorcerer in his power armour feel right.

The last Idea I had was the inquisition. An Inquisitor would be a nice stand-in for a Magus, and the possibilities of the henchmen are near endless. The army could look as follows:

    Broodlord hunting pack formation

    Combined Arms detachment imperial guard:

    Lord commissar as mandatory HQ
Veterans as better equipped brood brothers or maybe as infected arbites, normal guardsmen as brood brothers and conscripts as initiates
some tauroxes as stand-in for non military vehicles
    a tank or two

    Inquisitorial detachment:

    Inquisitor as Magus
arco-flagellants as Hybrids, perhaps crusaders as arbites with shields and power mauls

    What do you think?

I think using Inquisition is a great idea, Acro-flages, DCA and Daemon hosts are all pretty imaginable as hybrids..... Nothing stopping you using Jokaero either, just have them as bio weapon hybrids or something.

You could use IG, or even MT though I'd stop short of using Valks and Tanks other than the Taurox. Ogryns could be cool for near pure strains, you have psykers too, even a lord commissar or even Straken proxy' days a Magus would be cool...as long as they're modelled to look cool most people would be alright with it I reckon

Actually I'm thinking of doing the opposite...

I really like the fluff surrounding Inq. Kryptman and the ensuing Stark report.

I've been looking at the Genestealer formations to act as CtA allies for my Deathwatch army....

The problem I have is the formations work out super expensive and don't really add much in terms of balance to the army, my death watch (either BA, SM or SW WG) are already pretty lethal at short range....if only Genestealers were better at opening tin cans and knights!

I´m inspired by the novel "deathwatch" where the local arbites are cult members as far as I remember. A Lord Commissar could be the Arbites Leader, veterans with shotguns and plate armour could be arbites and a needed troop. An infantry platoon with a blob squad as brood brothers and a conscript squad as initiates as the second troop choice. The platton comand squad accompanies the Magus and 2 large squads of arco-flagellants are the hybrids. The hybrids and the Magus can take the Tauroxes/non military vehicles left over from the infantry platoon.

I don´t care for the competitivness of the units. I just want the army to be playable rules wise. The only problem now is finding fitting models for hybrids, brood brothers and arbites... I own 5 old metal arbites but I guess getting more of them would be pretty expensive as they are out of production for so long.

I've been working on arbites for the better part of a year, initially as part of my Inquisition warbands but recently expanding to be used as Veteran squads as you described. I don't have any of the old models though, I use scouts with a lot of bits, converting their knee pads and boots, and putting the eagle shoulder pad from the Sternguard kit on the right shoulder (well, I cast the shoulder pad as the box only comes with one). They're similar enough that it works really well, and the scout snipers can easily stand in for a command squad with sniper rifles. I'm planning to use Telion as my Company Commander with a Bolter, also converted etc.

Some plasticard or brass rod gives you shock mauls, which I add to the hip of every arbite as their ccw. The Scions kit has a really nice maul if you are looking for a power maul for your sergeants/crusaders.

Cultists are a great and inexpensive source of conversion material, they can be given extra genestealer limbs easily, and come in rifle or ccw versions depending on your needs.

These guys might make some good Brood Brothers:

They come with an optional tentacled head, too - like Ymgarl 'stealers.

You gotta greenstuff, but I think this guy made some decent-looking arbites out of plastic Cadians and SM Scouts:

    Thanks for all the replies.

It looks like its really hard to find models which really fit the old arbites. Converting scouts seems to be the best way. Considering I need only five arbites to get a squad of ten, I could do it I guess.

For the Hybrids and the standard brood brothers I don´t want a military uniform look. I think fantasy imperial flagellants or imperial militia mixed with a few chaos cultists and some genestealer parts will be the way to go. The Magus could be converted from Imperial wizards. And the broodlord and his genestealers will be taken directly from space Hulk.

What vehicles could I take that look like non-military trucks with a Autocannon tacked on? Ork Trukks? How do they look without all the orky glyphs and spiky bits?

I worked with Tim Huckleberry at GW when he wrote the updated Genestealer army list. His list focused on Imperial Guard with Ge estealers for nth support.

So if you ignore the obvious IG with come the Apocalypse Tyranid allies. Which is a legal battleforged army. Then here is a suggestion:

Chaos Space Marines with Daemon allies

    Chaos lord = Patriarch
    Chaos Sorcerer = Magus

    Cultists equal basic cultists

    Genestealers = Daemonettes

    Hearald of Slannesh = Broodlord

Hybrids are the problem, I would lean towards just using Chosen Marines, simply for the modeling opportunities. Heavy Support could be havoc or looted Space Marine vehicles.
