That Charlie Chaplain speech is an old favourite of mine. Another great one, while we're on the subject:

I did a short course studying speeches and presentations at work. Winston Churchill has such a way with words and speaking that really marks a momentous occasion.

Well, I'm currently planning a scheme of learning for year 9's looking at effective public speaking, so this is going in there (we've already got Churchill, though I personally find his speeches leave me a little cold. I don't much care for his cadence).

There's a lot of speeches I like. I've run public speaking clubs for near a decade now, and it's an art form that's sadly fading; people think they know what a good speech looks like, but until you see that perfect combination of word choice, linguistic technique, vocal control and paralingustic choices all combined together with real passion and/or genuine charisma... Man. There's nothing like it.

Some of my favourites (N.B.: some NSFW language in the first two):

I now have yet another reason to add to the list.

Ask not the EldarGal a question, for she will give you three answers, all of which are puns and terrifying to know. Back off man, I'm a feminist. Ia! Ia! Gloppal Snode!
