Default San Francisco, CA -- Calling all players!

This worked for Darkwynn, so I'm going to try it!

It looks like I'm moving to San Francisco! So I'm looking for a place to play. I'm going to be working in the Financial District (on 2nd Street between Mission and Market) and I'll be staying near there for the first few months -- until I find a place for the family (maybe Emeryville or Oakland).

1. What's the best store for 40K (and what night is game night)? I know there used to be a GW store near there, but I heard that it closed.

2. What's the Bay Area 40K scene like?

Any assistance would be seriously appreciated (and you can also email me at [email protected]).

Thanks!

Endgame in Oakland is the best I know of, and it is also Tastytaste's stomping grounds.

Inside the city of SF, there is only one store, Gamescape, that sells GW stuff. The people who work there are really friendly and if you spend $200 cumulatively, they give you a "membership" which grants 10% off all purchases, including GW. I normally get big stuff from mail order, but the little discount takes the pain off of impuslse buys.

For playing, Endgame has much better tables, but I'm not a huge fan of the crowd. The Fantasy players are EXTREMELY competitive and I stopped showing up after a few weeks of less than ideal sportsmanship. The 40k players are okay, but a decade or more younger than I am. Gamescape does late night 40k night on Fridays, which is typically a more mature crowd, and while the tables aren't anything to write home about, they're functional.

On a side note, I've been considering starting my own 40k club as I have a large enough garage to play in. If you're interested in helping, we could probably build a table or two and gather some players.

I think that the BoLs Lounge needs to just delete the local area forums since no one uses them and just posts here anyway.

(I have had a single post in Orlando for months lol)

I'm in the SF Bay Area (San Mateo, moving to Burlingame). Also busy as hell on most weeknights, but I'd be glad to play with folks.

As Chaosgerbil said Endgame is a decent choice although as pointed out the 40k crowd is on the younger side.

If you end up settling in Oakland you could check out Black Diamond games in Concord too, they have a pretty good 40k group there.

The nearest GW is in Alamo about 25 mins NE from Oakland.

The 40k scene in the Bay area is alive and well, but really spread out.

If you have any further questions feel free to ask or shoot me a line at [email protected].

Cheers,
Jim

The few times I have been to Endgame the tabletop games crowd seemed to average around 30, I guess YMMV.

Well, I will definitely be pushing the curve up on age. As long as there are people with painted armies that want to have a good time, I'll be happy.

I'm going to be communiting for the first few months, so my nights in the Bay Area are going to be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for a while. Once I move up the family, I'll be up for any night though.

I don't know about the others, but wanting to have a good time I can do. Painted armies ... not so much for this lawyer

Yes I am; I live about 15-20 minutes east of Concord in Oakley, so the far East Bay. I play a lot of Garage-hammer; at either my place or my buddies houses. Although I have been getting down to GW Empire hobby center in Antioch more and more lately, as it is about a 4 minute drive from my front door to theirs.

When I do get out of town it is usually Black Diamond in Concord, but I would easily travel to Endgame for the occasional game.
