I do know someone who is doing it, but I didn't know it was part of a bigger thing. there is a big backlash against patches, dlc etc. at the moment but I don't think every company is terrible for it.

Well

The original Witcher game only sold 300,000 copies in total apparently. CDPR is pretty happy overall with the numbers I'm sure.

well if you bear in mind that a game that sells well might be five million copies, to get one million pre-orders is pretty damn good.
