    Default Valten, Exalted of Sigmar

Hey everyone, I figured with all of the End Times craziness going on, now was a good time to paint up this mini. I've had him ever since it came out back during the Storm of Chaos. Here are a few wip shots in various stages.

This hammer has been such a huge pain for me. I completely stripped it once already and repainted it (no pics of how horrible it was before). I've added some dwarf runes to the haft to break up the negative space there and tried to make the glow more golden. I still don't know if I'm happy with it.

What do you think? Should I get rid of the runes again? Repaint the whole thing as a normal hammer with no glow?

I like the runes, but the glow looks more like he has dipped his hammer in sherbert.

which would in itself be cool, but possibly not what you are going for...

I would suggest a more metallic glow, maybe a little blue in there. the rest of it is stunning though

I'd add some orange in the deeper levels of the glow, that way it gives the impression of the hammer itself being made of light (i assume the effect you are aiming for is similar to the glowing hammers in Warhammer Online and Mark of Chaos?)

Well I have decided to ditch the glow effect. I stripped the hammer with nail polish remover and repainted over the glow effects on the rest of the model.

I think I am going to paint the hammer with a Bronze look so it's slightly different from the armor.

This guy has been a lot of fun to paint, minus that dang hammer of course. I'm really proud of how he turned out though. And to think, gold is one of my least favorite colors to paint

I know it's a bit late, but I think what you needed to do with the hammer was add some more white. Maybe a white glaze, or very narrow white lines in the center of each of the bold yellow lines. As it was, it looked more like the hammer was covered in yellow goo - with white brightness sitting in the center of the yellow lines, it would have looked more like light.

Anyway, your finished product still looks fantastic! Sometimes it's important to realize your limitations and take a step back. Well done!

The armour looks absolutely excellent mate. I'm generally not a fan of glow effects but I did like the Dwarf Runes you had added. I think the runes just gave it something a little bit extra.

    Looks amazing though, great job!

I did try that at first actually. It ended up looking too white. There are so many lines on the hammer that would need to be glowing as well as the head of the hammer and they are so thin that it ended up just looking white with a slight yellow tinge to it. It looked unfinished.

It's nice to see this. I hope, one day, i can show this also But, I have a question. 2 if you have the time The first one: How can you paint the blue cirkle? Its like glass and its awesome.

Second question. I wear glasses. So, its difficult for painting. Do you use something else like a magnifier?

Thanks! The gems are pretty simple to paint. First I paint them entirely black. Then I pick my blue, which in my case is a special mix I have for my Astral Claws. The first layer of this has some black mixed in and I paint about 1/2 - 2/3s of the gem. Paint it in a C shape leaving black in the top left corner. Next layer is pure blue in a smaller C shape in the bottom right corner, then I start mixing in white and paint smaller and smaller C's until it's almost just a line highlight on the bottom right portion. I do about 4-5 layers total I think. Then dot the top left corner with white for your reflection and you're done! I also gloss varnish it at the end.

I don't use anything to magnify it.

    Hope that helps.
