Heartily recommend giving SBG a bash.

Couple of boxes at most, and a single character and you've got yourself a table worthy force.

Not a massive skirmish fan these days (somewhat spoiled by Necronmunda and Mordheim), but don't let the stripped down mechanics fool you. It's a really, really fun game!

I actually picked up last week's WD to get a copy of that (after I noticed it was in there). Makes me glad the local GW manager stopped chucking magazines after a week and kept them around a little longer for those who might have missed the week before. But the PDF would be nice for my Kindle.

The game is actually fun, yeah. I have a 500 point Mirkwood force, basically it's Tauriel and Legolas with 10 Rangers attached to each. You can have much larger forces if you want (with Goblins or Hobbits). A Dwarf army at 500 points would be under $100, just get a couple boxes of warriors and a couple characters. That's really all you need. And it's quick enough to get in matches between other games.

I'll have to check this out. I really liked LOTR, it's a solid system and pretty fun. Only nobody plays it I my area. Haven't played the hobbit version though, and I know some things are different

yeah, that's the greatest thing about the system, it's quick to learn and doesn't require many figures, I got into it when they did the partwork Battle Games in Middle Earth, which even had a few exclusives some time before the main GW stores...

Still worth picking up that magazine series just for the hobby content alone....

Easterlings and Haradrim for the win. You know, I still have a Khandish chariot unassembled and unpainted:

That was a truly beautiful miniature when if first came out. It brightens me up to see that the Hobbit is still being played and not totally dead, but LOTR isn't what it used to be.

At one point, during the Angmar supplement where we got plastic Rangers and Ghulavar, GW planned to make Werewolves and Beornings.

That obviously never came to pass, but their ambition in diversifying the range always excited me to no end.

Come on, GW. let's see a resurgence in LOTR love. Like the good old days. Make it happen.
