With the formations full of formations, it's starting to feel even more like Epic 40K at 28mm scale. I don't want every game to be Apocalypse, so those aren't particularly useful for me, and it's a bit concerning that in the wake of Warhammer having issues because people sensed they had to have big armies for it, new codices are pushing people to build large armies with specific combinations of units.

Since the formations are their own deal anyway, I'll skip on the uber-bonus and just go with a CAD/army-specific detachment with one or two formations on the side if they're good enough (and don't have weird mixes of units, like cavalry and Terminators).

Just play smaller games. I know plenty of people that have plenty of fun with games around 1250 or 1500 points.

You could do the same with WFB, but it didn't help combat the idea that it was made for larger (more expensive) battles.

1500 is usually the max I end up playing, unless it's a slow day, because that's the "soft cap" at the GW store, making games go quicker so more people can play. At that points level, I can maybe use one or two of the formations, but trying to work in the uber-formation won't work so well.

I thought that was the idea. You play a smaller game so you can't use the uber-formations so it doesn't feel like Epic.

As for the scale going up, there's a large difference between 40k and Warhammer there. 40k offers a fulfilling game at as low as 500 points, because it's objective based. Warhammer, minimum is probably 1,200ish? That gives you access to most units in your book without allowing big gribblies to dominate, as well as providing the critical part of the game - manoeuvres. Any smaller and fair chunks of various books cannot take the field, and you're unlikely to have units enough to spare for one to be a sacrificial prawn.

I am so excite, I might actually proper freak out.

I just about pre-date 2nd Ed, and I remember so much cool stuff. Skip forward over 20 (yep, count 'em) years, and finally, at long last - it's actually happening.

This akin to Beavis and actually scoring. You alway kinda hope, but always kind know it won't.

Reading WD, and it name checks Legio Cybernetics and the Ordinatus in a 40k setting....

Mayhaps the three book rumour is true, and we'll see a central Mechanicus Codex?

Also, 10 Infantry for £23.50 is a welcome change of pricing structure. £2.50 more than Scions, and double the model count. Hmm.

A mechanicus flyer would be cool - I hope they'd make the pilot integrated and hard-wired into it. Felt they should of done that for necrons, but it would suit mechanicum too. Agreed, on the price - that's not bad at all for GW and with discounts quite affordable.
