Default ? on Eldar opening move.

So If I have a waveserpent with a unit of Wraithguard.

    1st turn:
    Move flatout, 18"s.

    2nd turn:
    Move 6"s.
    Swivel around so rear/side is facing enemy. { I know yikes! }
    Disembark Wraithguard unit.
Wraithguard move 6"s from rear of waveserpent.
Waveserpent can swivel turret and fire turret weapons on enemy.
Wraithguard unit can fire on enemy.

Then can run Wraithguard unit forward D6"s, if I wish.
    But no Assaulting.

    Have I got that right?

Wraithguard can fire OR run, not both.

Unless you have given them the battle focus rule (which I believe is possible with the Iyanden supplement)

Yes its a Iyanden army. So i believe they get Battlefocus.

Been a while since I ran Iyaden list but IIRC You have to have a Spiritseer to cast the primaris power from the Iyaden supplement to give the Wraithguard battle focus.

Worth taking vectored engines so you can spin the Serpent back around again.

run serpents with GWM. 'fly' them 30" straight in to best available cover in proximity to target. wraith cannon threat range is then 24" and wraith scythe 18" ish. i tend to combine wraith units with fire-dragons in pairs.

even if the serpents get hacked around a bit the units inside should be ok.

Wraithguard guns only have a 12" range!
Aim is to get as close to target troops as possible so WG can get out next turn to lay down the waste on them.

I think by threat range he means the full reach in the next turn. You have the 6" move, 6" deploy + the 12" range to shoot. I do like the vectored engines trick to swing your serpents back around after deploying. WG are one of my favorite specialist units.

As of today, I'ld imagine that WG are the darlings of Eldar players and despised more than Chaos by every one else. I tried using the Crystal Targeting Matrix on my Serpents, it allows a single weapon to be fired after moving flat out once per game. I tried using it with the Serpent shield but did not get much joy from the shield.

What else did you field for that first turn?
