Number of units for Canticle of Omnissiah

If a Techpriest Dominus joins a unit, does that mean the HQ and the unit it joins only count as one unit?

It's more of a general rules question though.

If we are counting the number of units we are taking, and I have an HQ joined to another squad, do they together count as one unit?

There are no rules recognizing the IC as being a separate unit when joined to the unit.

Keep in mind that even though the IC is considered a separate unit for Kill Objectives, it technically leaves the unit when either is destroyed since the IC is no longer in coherency. So that isn't even a consideration.
