A sick model and his rules are very good. His last rule allows him to operate solo and cause havoc in the enemy back-lines, he can pretty easily take on large Heavy Support/Tactical Squads by himself, not to mention that his pseudo-Invisibility on the turn he arrives ensures he should emerge mostly unscathed. The guy can survive a 6 on a Destroyer chart and survive so long as he passes a Leadership test on LD10, and also effectively has 4 Wounds. Stats wise he's essentially a Praetor with -1 WS (only really makes a difference against other Praetors/Consuls/certain elite units) and a slightly weaker Paragon Blade that is specifically better against vehicles. He has very good saves even by Praetor standards as normally only Iron Hands/Imperial Fists/Salamanders can get 3+ invulnerable saves, and while Garro can bounce off of any 2+ armored model the mix of Preferred Enemy (Traitors) and Rending should offset that mostly - just keep him away from Terminators. His ranged weapon is also fairly decent and stacks pretty darned well with that aforementioned Preferred Enemy (Traitors). All in all, for 175 points he's pretty well balanced for what he does but he has acceptable limitations - he struggles against 2+ saves, his unique Deep Strike rule seems to only work if he goes solo (might need clarification on that), etc. Thumbs up from me!

Just to put this into perspective, a Praetor with a Paragon Blade and Iron Halo is 150 points. We can maybe cut 5 points off for Garro's sword as it is better than a Power Sword by quite a bit but not as good as a Paragon Blade, so 145 points, then shave probably 10 points off for being WS5, so down to 135 points. You add in the 3+ invulnerable save in challenges, what amounts to a fourth wound, an ability to shrug off a '6' on a Destroyer chart via that same rule, an unprecedented ability to run solo and mess up a 30K army back-line for a Praetor-level character, plus Preferred Enemy against Traitor forces (i.e. roughly half of the armies in 30K essentially) and I would say he is fairly priced at 175 points.

EDIT: I didn't even notice his Oath of Moment rule! He can't be the Warlord and he is a non-compulsory HQ choice, meaning you pretty much pay 225 points minimum on HQs when fielding Garro. His Oaths of Moment are interesting but can be lopsided; it is almost impossible for him to conceivably kill even a badly wounded Primarch, his lack of guaranteed AP2 means killing the enemy Warlord will likely be difficult (as most Warlords in HH games have 2+ armor), and while the other three are much easier to achieve you need to be mindful that if you don't achieve the Oath of Moment, you auto-lose the game! This means that some of them which require Garro to be alive at the end of the game can be impossible to claim if he dies, so using him in the fashion I described above can be iffy.

    Chickity-check-yo-wordin' before-you-wreck-yo-self....or something like that

Primarch death doesn't need to be at Garro's hand. They just have to die.....

Ah nice, didn't even notice that. Mmmm tasty! Still....I've found Primarchs tend not to die *that* often in my experience, however the great thing about the Oath of Moment and his special Deep Strike rules are that you can modify/use them on a game-by-game basis meaning you can pretty much always figure out a way to make Garro suit your needs. He's a toolbox victory point generator rather than a toolbox character (i.e. someone like Perturabo who has wargear for any occasion).

    Indeed. Really, really nice option.

And he suits the Imperium's approach - go for the vital bits of the Heretic forces. Remove a commander, win a specific battle, and you weaken the Heresy overall.

Man, I cannot wait for book 6! Wonder if they'll drop it pre-Chrimbo?

Lovely model and the rules for him are pretty interesting and suit his role in the Heresy really well I think. Might have to get him for my burgeoning 30k force.
Either there is life in the universe more intelligent than us, or we are the most intelligent form of life in the universe. Either way, it's a worrying thought!
