The presentation of Kylo Ren as a whiny, insecure little **** is brilliant because, frankly, whiny insecure little ****s are usually the people who actually do become evil in real life. Nerds want a Star Wars bad guy to be a stone-cold badass like Darth Vader because this lets them off the hook for self-examination, as nerds are absolutely nothing like Darth Vader. Kylo Ren, however, is a nerd: he acts like one, he has the backstory of one, and when he takes his helmet off, he even looks like one. Far from ruining the film, this actually makes it the most mature entry to date in the Star Wars canon, because it forces the greatest amount of self-examination on the part of its core audience.

Ask not the EldarGal a question, for she will give you three answers, all of which are puns and terrifying to know. Back off man, I'm a feminist. Ia! Ia! Gloppal Snode!

This is a superb article; neatly summarises everything I've been thinking about, as well as pointing out what an absolutely on-the-money critique Kylo Ren is of white cishet gatekeeper culture.

But it's Titus Pullo, although Lucius Vorenus did pretty well with one in Bunraku.

I don't know what any of that means. A samurai would always win though

Bunraku is a rather silly martial arts film but is quite good, one of the main henchmen is the actor that played a Roman centurion Lucius Vorenus the superior of the one Yorkie pictured in Rome.

Also it turns out we watched it because Gackt is in it

Samurai are the most overrated warriors of all time sure they're alright in ritual combat against someone else fighting to the same code. Stick em in against someone who is just fighting to win at all costs and honour be damned and they're in trouble. Titus Pollo would take em out while they're introducing themselves.

Didn't Darth Vader start out as a whiney little insecure sh*t though? I thought that was what Episodes I,II & III were about

Anyone wearing even a bit of armour would probably deflect a katana as well.

Would likely knacker a Katana and all - at least do over its edge.
