    Default 2000 Pt. Wolf Claw Strike Force Detatchment

    Wanted to try fielding a new force with the rules from the new Wulfen Edition codex - I wanted to field a transport-heavy force appropriate for Engir Krakendoom's Seawolves Great Company, so this is what I came up with:

    It's a legal detatchment (1+ Core, 1+ Auxiliary) so they all get the free Counter-Charge rule which allows them to charge engaged enemy units during the enemy assault phase. It's not two of the same legendary great company, though, so no free Furious Charge. Blackmanes get free drop pods, all the drop pods enter turn 1, forces exiting drop pods are Fearless and Feel no Pain (6+) and the swiftclaws re-roll misses in melee while pseudo-Ragnar is on the table. Ironwolves vehicles get free upgrades, get +6" flat out, can disembark after traveling 12", and force tank shock morale checks at -2 leadership.

    Tactics are pretty straightforward - the 3 drop pods with Grey hunters and meltaguns drop and pop enemy vehicles, and the pod with pseudo-Ragnar and the Wolf Guard drop and hope to survive long enough to get into combat with the enemy beat-stick. The scouts do what scouts do and the Swiftclaws concentrate on small or bunched up infantry units while the Ironwolves vehicles move up at the double-quick (up to 24" of movement, including "flat out") and pop smoke. Next turn, the surviving Blackmanes either charge or rapid-fire and receive the charge, and the Ironwolves vehicles move up and drop off their cargo of troops. If all goes well, the two Razorbacks and Grey hunters squads from the Iron Wolves (along with the attached Wyrdstorm Brotherhood Rune Priests) are sitting in the midfield or on objectives on their side of the board, popping away with medium-ranged weaponry and Witchfire powers. The Razorback with the Multi-melta Long Fangs takes a central position in the midfield and splits fire to engage armored targets as needed, and the Wolf Guard Battle Leader with Black Death can split off from them and charge enemy units "solo" if any get too close. The two Blood Claw squads are objective-takers - with their flamer and lots of attacks (plus a "hidden" power axe), they should hopefully be able to push a squad out of cover or destroy it if need be. Whatever is left of the Blackmane drop contingent should hopefully be mucking things up in the enemy deployment zone.

    What do you think? I kinda think it might be a stretch at this points level (I'd rather have some bigger squads in those drop pods, for one) but after including all the required units in the Core detachments and the required Auxiliary choice, I just didn't have all that many points left to play with. It's got lots of small units, it can drop a decent sized "alpha strike," and the Ironwolves vehicles can zoom around and tank shock, too. It also seems very mobile, which should be nice.

    Moved some points around - now the Rune Priests go with the Blood Claws and pseudo-Ragnar has a couple more guys in his squad.
