Definitely melt it down.
For the same reason one of my dreams is to buy lots of very rare, MISB Grade A Star Wars merchandise....and then film the opening of the boxes, and the playing with of the toys.

one of my favourite tv moments is when James May is at a model train auction. he buys a BNIB train that all the collectors desperately want. then he goes to the desk to pick it up, rips open the packaging, throws it away, and walks off with the train to put it on his track and play with.
