Default The Butcher and a Slag Troll

Last week I painted up a couple Privateer press models and here are the results. Neither one is quite finished. they both need touch-ups (including a good dusting to get rid of the extra static grass), and the troll needs more work around the base.

    The Butcher:

    A Slag Troll:

These guys were a lot of fun and I'd love to get your comments and suggestions.

Very nice! Especially the skin on both the Troll and the Butcher. I find Warbeasts to be one of the more daunting things to paint because of all the skin but you did a splendid job. Only real critique - the silver on the butch looks off. I can't exactly pinpoint it, but it doesn't look right. The silver on the Slag troll doesn't appear to have the same problem.

    Thanks, CrashTest Dummy!

You're right about the metal. I think it's the dry-brushing. Both models use dry-brushed Gunmetal over black, followed by a rust-colored wash. It looks good on the troll because you expect battered and abused metal on a creature who oozes acid and wears an chain-and-steel-plate loincloth. But on the Butcher it looks too rough. Anyone who'd actually name his weapon after a long-lost love probably tries to keep it at least marginally clean.

I'll go back and try a paint-and-wash approach to the metal on his axe and the lower rings of his shoulder pads. That'll tighten up the edges and make the whole thing look like it's properly maintained.
