I've got a ton of old plastic Space Marine rhinos and wanted to convert a bunch to whirlwinds. Anyone got ideas on what would be a great way to do this?

Use the three-rack of missiles that come from the older SM Tactical upgrade sprue (the sprue from the 3rd/4th Tac squad that included the parts for the Sgt, Missile and flame throwers). It is three missiles on a rack for the backpack of the Missile Launcher marine, and it would be about right for the back of a Epic Rhino (although it would better represent the new Chimera Manticore kit, it would still look cool as a whirlwind).

I just got 8 classic whirlwinds off ebay in the mail yesterday. I could post some close up pictures and size measurements if you want to build you own turrets. Probably need like 1/4 inch square plastic rod and small circular rod that people use for making rivets in conversions.
thanks for the great idea, lobster-overlord, hope I have enough
eriochrome, that would be great if you could do that, thanks. Hope you got a great deal on them.
It was something like seven and a half whirlwinds for 10 plus shipping but I also got 2 classic warhounds for 19, 2 classic but ugly and little thunderhawks for 11, and 6 classic predators for 13. So it was a big purchase overall but if I was buying new from GW it would have been like 150 dollars so a good buy plus it is all classic style to go in the pre heresay Dusk Raiders army I am working on.
Actually it would work out nicely to buy the Whirlwind pack. You get extra set of turrets and thus can get 4 Hunters and 4 turrets for old Rhinos for Whirlwinds .
Here are the pics of the very old style whirlwind with the rectangular launcher that would be easiest to make.

I actually used the Hunter turrets from the current Whirlwind pack on old rhinos also
