Default The Drowned Earth miniatures game - launched and fully funded on Kickstarter

The Drowned Earth Miniatures game, designed by James Baldwin, is currently live on Kickstarter until 16th May 2017, the game is fully funded and has already hit over a dozen stretch goals to unlock extra factions, several different dinosaur models, mounted models, custom dice/token sets and a full printed rulesbook.

Set several hundred years after a devastating cataclysm known as "The Event" wiped out the great civilization of the Builders, the survivors now look to rebuild in the ruins of the old earth by hunting for lost technology, fighting the local wildlife and battling for resources. The Drowned Earth is a skirmish scale game using 5 (or more) 35mm models played on a 3ftx3ft table, the game itself features

• A Parkour/ Freerunning movement system.
• Rules which told a narrative through a dramatic reaction mechanic.
• A streamlined, elegant system which was quick to learn and easy to remember.
• An unambiguous rules set suitable for competitive play that will always be available as a PDF for free online.

There are four different factions that have been unlocked in the Kickstarter, each comprising of a "crew" of five models and each faction has a very different styles of play and the 3D renders can be seen below. Over half have master copies made, with the rest to be done soon after the KS concludes. There is also mounted models of each faction leader planned, with Nix on Raptor the first to be shown. Along with these mounted leaders, thanks to some stetch goal unlocks, there will be several varieties of cool looking dinosaur models for each crew to include or for optional use in scenario play.

There will also be a series of mercenary models that players can use in their crews, designed with input from several Kickstarter backers. These “Mercs” will also be able to combine with a character designed via a “choose your own adventure” style community event run by the games designer to form a new fifth faction.

Plus the designer has got in some really great painters to showcase the miniatures, the sort of stuff which makes me pretty jealous but shows how cool the models look.

It has also been great to see the community growing around the game, on social media (Twitter & Facebook), on the Facebook fan page and in the comments section of the "The Drowned Earth Miniatures game"Kickstarter. The designer has been actively involved in this community, answering questions and giving regular updates on the project. He has also been made a series of videos on their youtube channel explaining how the game works and plays, videos of all the current master models and a live sculpting event with James W Cain who is one of the games sculptors who has brought the miniatures to life, and explains the artistic process. There will also be a live streamed painting event with his studio painter soon!

The success of the Kickstarter has been excellent and people’s imaginations seem to have been sparked by the rich setting, the beautiful miniatures and the narrative gameplay style. The game has a unique setting which has led to some brilliant terrain work, with the demo boards at the gaming expo "Salute" in the UK attracting a lot of attention!
