Last Thursday night on the drinking stream, there was a bit of spirited (SEE WHAT I DID THERE!?) debate on which Chaos Gods corresponded with which Harry Potter Houses (I know... you had to be there, I guess).
I know very little about Harry Potter, but I do know my 40k influences... but every last man jack of the players were absolutely smashed by the stage of this 'debate', so I let it lie. But, chances are people aren't absolutely smashed right now, (plus I just remembered about it this morning) so here we are.
The Big Four were originally based in large part on the concept of the four temperaments, which itself has its roots in humourism. The corresponding humour for each Chaos God is this; Nurgle - phlegmatic, Khorne - choleric, Slaanesh - sanguine, Tzeentch - melancholic.
Why the Chaos Gods are based on any of these things at all goes back to one of 40k's original influences: the author Michael Moorcock. The Four Powers have grown and developed a lot since their inception, but that's (very basically) the root of them.
So, how do the Chaos Gods correspond with Harry Potter school houses? I still have no idea. To me, English schoolkids are more like football hooligans, so a better question would be "Which Harry Potter House corresponds with which Ork Clan?"
