Christ, that reminds me of a horrific discussion I had once on a Star Trek forum. Which basically boiled down to 'Well, if the prerequisite for canon, to which you are holding an exceptionally rigid view, is that unless it is directly seen or stated on screen in one of the episodes or films, your existence is violating the canon since you have never been in one of the episodes. You probably have a knife rack downstairs in the kitchen, in order to retain the integrity of the show you love, only one thing to do.'
