I'm with 40k Gamer on this one.

No issue with anyone's given faith. You believe whichever book you want to believe.

But when you abdicate the reading and interpretation of that book to another, and then just follow what they say? You've gone wrong.

I'm religious myself as I find it helpful in navigating morality and ethics. However I find the intrusive nature of the world's traditional religions both politically destabilizing and harmful. It's one thing to provide the moral framework for people but it's the height of hubris for these religious organizations to presume they can dictate life choices to others... and while I'm not a fan of quoting anything (as I'm put off by Bible waving loons) there is one passage that is near and dear to my heart. It gives pause to all but the most hardened Christian fanatic when you remind them of it too.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?"

What I consider the live and let live passage. Way too many Christians edit this right out of their bible. You have to admit that the world's religions fight a shadow war, trying to manipulate and control people. Just look at how they treat women regarding abortions.

So true! I guess the message of love and tolerance only applies to those who think and act according to their approved reality.
