I know one of my friends who wears it does so against the very strong wishes of her parents, because it makes her visibly Muslim and drew attention. I've heard similar stories from young Muslim women around the world too. Ms Marvel may have even touched on it? I will check when I get home, good excuse to read it again...
Ask not the EldarGal a question, for she will give you three answers, all of which are puns and terrifying to know. Back off man, I'm a feminist. Ia! Ia! Gloppal Snode!

Organized religion (of all types) is the bane of modern existence.

Except when it isn't, which for a lot of people in the world is a lot of the time.
Read the above in a Tachikoma voice.

I'm with 40k Gamer on this one.

No issue with anyone's given faith. You believe whichever book you want to believe.

But when you abdicate the reading and interpretation of that book to another, and then just follow what they say? You've gone wrong.

I'm religious myself as I find it helpful in navigating morality and ethics. However I find the intrusive nature of the world's traditional religions both politically destabilizing and harmful. It's one thing to provide the moral framework for people but it's the height of hubris for these religious organizations to presume they can dictate life choices to others... and while I'm not a fan of quoting anything (as I'm put off by Bible waving loons) there is one passage that is near and dear to my heart. It gives pause to all but the most hardened Christian fanatic when you remind them of it too.

"Matthew 7:1-3 King James Version (KJV)

7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?"

What I consider the live and let live passage. Way too many Christians edit this right out of their bible. You have to admit that the world's religions fight a shadow war, trying to manipulate and control people. Just look at how they treat women regarding abortions.

I find Christian Fundamentalists, like any Religious Fundamentalist are gloriously selective in precisely which passages they say are sacrosanct....

So true! I guess the message of love and tolerance only applies to those who think and act according to their approved reality.

A most excellent choice mate! Maybe fundamentalist's just need access to some quality ganja.

Here's my favorite sideshow in the states... I wonder how their bible reads? I'm guessing a lot of redacted passages, a few edits and a likely back room rewrite.

    Ah yes. Westboro.

    A suing machine.

Nothing to do with Religion, everything to do with trying to provoke a reaction they can sue you over.

    Vile examples of humanity.
