Well, I wouldn't argue with the rebirth of Epic... but remember, this isn't the first time we've suspected such a thing. We also thought they were going to bring back Inquisitor, but that turned out to be just the Codex: =][=. At some point, there were rumors that they're going to bring back BFG, but we all can see where that went. I think we should consider the Specialist Games truly dead.

Indead that are, however there maybe one off releases like Space Hulk from time to time(e.g when sales are dropping), this may be one of them.

I just don't think it's going to happen. I think GW is aware of what it does to their credibility when they release stuff and don't support it, and I don't think they feel comfortable going off on a limb with brand new lines right now. I don't think this is something we can hope for.

Well their are persistent rumours of Bloodbowl returning which I give some credence to as it's a) Popular b) distinct from the other games and c) they will need something to replace LotR/Hobbit once that winds up in a year or so because lets be honest that's been less of a golden egg laying Goose and more of a turkey more and more these days.

Nope, just interested in seeing some parity for once between shooting and CC. Though, not sure I'm keen on seeing Fall Back as a charge reaction in 40K. In Fantasy there's real risk to falling back, in 40K half of all armies will just automatically regroup regardless of any restrictions, pick up an extra 3'' of regroup, and then move normally. Because They Shall Follow No Rules.

I'd love Epic to return... but my guess is this is about as solid a rumour as the 'fabled' plastic thunderhawk...

My guess would be that 7th is exactly what has been suggested; simply a collation of all the 'extra' rules like Escalation etc. so that they become part of the main type of play. With a smattering of 'tweaks' where some rules need it...

Why would they (GW) be producing models like the Knights, KhorneDozer etc. etc. if they didn't want them in mainstream play. As it stands now, Escalation and Stronghold Assault are optional and can be considered an 'expansion', but if they were rolled up into the main rule-book then it would be more difficult for them to be omitted. I realize they are still optional parts and the Force Org Charts for the Lords of Battle slot could be non-permissible in tournaments... however, it would be significantly more complicated etc.

It's also occurred to me that GW might be trying to ride the Colossals/Gargantuans wave created by Privateer Press by creating a similar product for their own games: enormous centerpiece models. If that's their motivation, it wouldn't surprise me to see Stronghold Assault and Escalation folded into the main game.
