Best Brushes for Painting?

Hi guys i have heard a few things about the Windsor Newton brushes and the Raphael brushes....yet im not sure which to get anyone got advice on what sizes i should get and\or which is a better brand?

Also do i want the water color type or????

Absolutely, these brushes are the best I have come across, they may cost a bit more but look after them and they will last. Going from a GW brush to one of these is great step to improving your painting. I only use 3 sizes. I have a 2, 1 and 00. Because all 3 hold their point so well. That's all I have found I needed. Just don't use them for dry brushing

I've found W&N to be rather overrated for miniature painting. They are good but painting they are so soft that edge highlighting can be a real pain. They are great brushes, don't misunderstand. But they aren't some kind of silver bullet for painting woes.

Edge i can do easy its just the rest of my brushes are GW brand and keep falling apart on me (Then again people go through all my stores brushs and screw some up for laughs im starting to think)

I have been using the Raphael 8404 series for a couple of years now and have been very happy with them. I finally got my paws on W&N Series 7 a couple of months ago and have been trying them out. The Series 7 are good, but I'm probably staying with Raphael for most of my painting, though I'll want to test out different sizes of Series 7, I currently have only sizes 1 and 2. Of those the size 1 works very nicely, but size 2 doesn't seem to keep its point nearly as nicely. From what I have heard, W&N brushes have recently had some issues with slightly inconsistent quality, this might be a symptom of that.

The brushes have somewhat different feel to them, so if possible, try to get couple of both Series 7 and Rapahel 8404 and test them out to see which fits your style better. If you can get one significantly cheaper or easier, go with that, both are great. Sizes you should try are 0, 1 and 2. You won't need any smaller, as high quality brushes keep their points much better than the cheaper ones, so you can do detail work with much larger brushes. If you need larger brushes for something like tank basecoating, you can use cheaper brushes for that. I do most of my painting with Raphael 8404 size 1.

raphaels 8404 hands down been using the same for ages now and really fell in love with them!
my 1st set a 0 and a 0/2 im still using to this day and thy are over a year old!! and i really took no care of them whatsoever. still waiting on myu 2nd set of them
